Edible Schoolyard Kern County Launches First-ever Adult Summer Workshop Series

Edible Schoolyard Kern County launches first-ever adult Summer Workshop Series

Enrollment opens for workshops that provide adults with unique culinary learning experiences

Bakersfield, Calif. (Wednesday, June 29, 2022) – The Edible Schoolyard Kern County (ESYKC) today announced the launch of its first-ever Summer Workshop Series for local adults. Workshop participants will be able to learn the basics of pickling, jamming and pasta making. The new workshop series, which also serves as a fundraiser for ESYKC’s upcoming garden projects, will accept signups until each class reaches capacity.

“We are constantly looking for new ways to expand access to the Edible Schoolyard,” said ESYKC Program Director Dylan Wilson. “We got the idea to do this series from our community. A lot of the people we meet long to be a part of the edible education process and to gain access to our unique learning experience.”

Those who attend will gain an unparalleled, hands-on learning experience and expand their kitchen abilities. Jamming and pickling workshops will teach how to preserve summer fruits and produce using simple ingredients typically found in participants’ kitchens. During the pasta-making class, those in attendance will also enjoy a selection of carefully curated wines by the owners of Campo Bar + Bottle.

“We hope that adults can take these kitchen education experiences and expand them at home with their families,” said Wilson.

Participants can enroll in each workshop individually. Because this is a pilot test workshop series, availability is limited to adults ages 21 and older. Workshops last 2 hours.
