At our annual Spring Plant Sale we welcome the community into our Edible Schoolyard to purchase plants for your home and support edible education in our community. Spring is the ideal time to plant a home garden. Our Annual Spring Plant Sale has become a signature community event that marks the beginning of the season.

During the Plant Sale, you’ll have the opportunity to see our working garden and experience how our students and campers learn about the seed-to-table cycle. Browse through dozens of different vegetables, herbs and flowers that are ready to be transplanted at your home. Our staff of Garden and Kitchen Educators are also available to help you understand the basics of gardening.

Tomato Triumph

9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Master the fundamentals of growing delicious tomatoes and ensure a plentiful harvest in your garden. Learn essential techniques and tips to nurture healthy tomato plants from seed to harvest.

Gardening 101 Workshop

10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Learn the basics of transplanting your plants to your home garden, simple pest management techniques, and best practices will be shared to help your garden thrive. In no time, you will have a fresh seasonal bounty for your dinner table.

Companion Planting Workshop

11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Learn how to pair plants for optimal growth, pest management, and nutrient sharing in small gardens. With expert guidance and hands-on activities, you will discover the secrets of plant synergy and maximize your garden’s potential.

Join us as we embark on a culinary journey like no other, celebrating the rich flavors of Kern County while supporting edible education. Our menu is inspired by locally sourced produce from the esteemed Buena Vista Gardens, ensuring a feast for both the senses and the soul.

Join fellow food enthusiasts, local businesses, sponsors and partners to Toast & Taste the season. Immerse yourself in the captivating rhythms of live music, connect with like-minded individuals and foster a sense of community as we showcase the finest locally sourced and grown foods from Kern County.

By attending this event, you’re not only indulging in delicious food but also contributing to a greater purpose. Your support helps us champion edible education in Kern County and provides scholarships for students in Arvin and Shafter to attend ESYKC 2024 Summer Camps. Every penny from this event plays a crucial role in empowering children from disadvantaged communities with essential edible education. Together, we have the power to improve the academic, social and emotional well-being of students and their families.
